Early Life and Education

My education journey began in Dadeldhura, Nepal, where I completed my primary education at Sharada School Siraad. Following my undergraduate studies (BSc) at Siddhanath Science Campus in Mahendranagar, I pursued a Master's degree (MA) in Population Studies at the prestigious Central Department of Population Studies in Kathmandu. My early career, spanning 1998-2006, saw me contribute to various educational institutions, NGOs, and the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations.

Fuelled by a passion for public health, I embarked on international postgraduate studies the University of Aberdeen (Scotland), where I earned an MSc in Public Health. My thirst for knowledge led me to the University of Bristol (UWE Bristol) in England, where I successfully completed a PhD in injury prevention research in 2013.

Expertise and Experience

I am a public health researcher with a strong focus on global health and international public health issues. My recent work has centred on injury prevention and safety promotion, where I have employed diverse methodologies, ranging from mixed-methods approaches to community mobilization, to achieve research goals. As a Research Fellow at UWE Bristol (UK) from July 2017, I have played a pivotal role in establishing the Nepal Injury Research Centre (NIRC) within Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) and leading stakeholder engagement aspects of NIHR funded road safety research in Nepal.

Research Skills and Approach

My expertise encompasses a range of research methods, including both qualitative and quantitative approaches. I possess strong project management skills and a proven track record of clear and compelling written and oral communication. As a researcher, I am equally comfortable working collaboratively within teams and independently. Working with grassroots communities, I have co-created education materials for parents and community group facilitation manual.

Passion and Advocacy

Driven by self-motivation and a deep commitment to developing sustainable injury prevention strategies, I actively promote knowledge transfer between high-income and low-income country settings via X Space using the handle @Puspa_RPant. My membership in professional networks for drowning prevention, road safety, child injury prevention, and global health reflects my dedication to these areas.

I am a strong advocate for safety promotion, and I strive to create positive impact by fostering connections, engaging with media, and publishing my findings in internationally peer-reviewed journals. My research on the epidemiology of child injuries, the first of its kind in Nepal, earned me a prestigious Gold Medal from the President of Nepal. Additionally, I contribute to the advancement of public health research by serving on the editorial boards or as a reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals including IJERPH, SAGE Open and Injury Prevention (BMJ).

Professional Affiliations and Recognition

My dedication to global health research extends beyond national borders. I am a Fellow of the International Society of Global Health (ISoGH) and a member of the Britain-Nepal Academic Council (BNAC). I am member and investigator of the Nexus Institute of Research & Innovation (NIRI), NIRI Nepal is undertaking a number research and advocacy activities.
